Hi everyone,
Believe it or not, we're almost at the end of the semester! Unfortunately, that means we only have one more event left in the Spring -- join us in Pupin Hall next Friday, April 28, at 7:00pm (note the time change) for our final public astronomy event of the 2022-2023 academic year!
Columbia Astronomy PhD student Ben Cassese will be giving a public talk titled "The Edge of the Backyard: Mapping the Boundaries of the Solar System":
"Despite its relative proximity compared to other treasures of the night sky, the edge of our solar system has only started to come into focus in the last few decades. We've only now started to map out our borders -- and there are hints there is much more to find. What do we know of so far, and what might still be out there?"
We'll kick off the evening at 7:00pm with some astronomy trivia, followed by Ben's talk and Q&A. From 8:10-9:10pm, we will be outside stargazing on College Walk (weather permitting).
The main event will take place in Pupin Hall 301. Signs will be posted to direct you to the lecture hall, and general directions to Columbia and Pupin Hall can be found here. Outdoor observing/stargazing will take place on College Walk, the portion of 116th street crossing through Columbia's main campus; we will walk down to College Walk as a group following the lecture and Q&A. Telescopes and binoculars will be provided by Columbia Astronomy (but you are absolutely welcome to bring your own observing equipment).
This event is free and open to all -- stay only as long as you want. If you plan to attend this event, please fill out the RSVP form at tinyurl.com/columbia-astro-april28.
Looking forward to seeing you in Pupin Hall next week!
Very best,
Columbia Astronomy Public Outreach
