After reading your license agreement I do not see anything
specifically stating who the software is free for. I have developers
asking to use the software, but since the license agreement doesn't
specifically state who the software is free for I am not allowing the
software to be used. From what I have heard and what I have read the
software is really good. I just want to legally make sure that the
software can be used by my developers before I can allow the software
to be used.

Thanks!

Hello,

Color cop is free and can be used by anyone. It appears I failed to
make that clear in the license file.

If you have a suggestion for an update to the license that would be
great.

Here is a suggestion:

Color cop is free for use in any environment, including but not
necessarily limited to: personal, academic, commercial, government,
business, non-profit, and for-profit. "Free" in the preceding sentence
means that there is no cost or charge associated with the installation
and use of Color cop. Donations are always appreciated, of course!

Better yet would be to offer the application under the GNU General Public License. (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html) As a universally accepted standard now in its third iteration, it allows companies, universities, developers and end users to know exactly where the application stands with regards to licensing and usage.

I am in the same boat as Jay and the others. My corporate risk officers and software asset management shy away from anything that isn't either purchased with an applicable license, or is defined in the GNU GPL as usable under its definition.

I hope you'll take the option to utilize this standard. Great product and great reviews from the users in my company.
