| Suzette, Selbino, and I sailed at Cherry Creek today. I drilled several holes straight out from where we normally launch. The ice was consistently 3" thick, and the top two inches were quite hard. There was a little bit of snow on the surface, but not enough to be any impediment. We sailed until about three pm. Wind varied from east to north. 3" is marginally ok for someone walking on the ice. Even when the four of us collected in close proximity to each other there was no problem with cracking. If you do go out, don't go out alone, and keep an eye on each other. Wear a pfd and carry ice picks and a whistle. The snow forecast for Denver tonight has been downgraded to less than an inch. Selbino, Mike, and I will probably go out again tomorrow. chuck mawhinney |
