Pack the hearing. Then join us at Sippin’ on Facts.

Dear Michael,

Colorado is facing a $1.5 billion budget shortfall — and lawmakers are making painful cuts to Medicaid, substance use treatment, and funding for schools and state workers.

At the same time, the state is still on track to spend millions expanding prisons — unless we change course.

That’s what SB26-036, Prison Population Management Measures is about.

If legislators don’t act this session to hold DOC accountable to manage Colorado’s prison population, the state will soon open a new prison, maybe two — instead of funding the things Coloradans need.

First: Pack the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing ⚠️RESCHEDULED!

The hearing for CCJRC's priority bill SB26-036, Prison Population Management Measures has been rescheduled — and it’s critical we show up.

This bill focuses on managing prison population growth by addressing the root causes of growth in Colorado's prison population. Things like parole release, reentry housing, and use of existing community corrections capacity.

🗓️ Monday, April 13th | 1:30pm
📍Colorado State Capitol, 200 E. Colfax, Old Supreme Court 2nd Floor
Wear blue! Buttons provided.

Then: Join us for Sippin’ on Facts ☕

Nonpartisan budget analysts estimate the fentanyl ballot measure on November’s ballot will send about 900 additional people to prison each year at a cost of $423 million.

At the first stop of our statewide coffee shop tour,  'Sippin’ on Facts', we’ll walk through what the measure does, how sentencing would change, and what the projected impacts are — along with other ballot measures backed by the conservative political organization Advance Colorado.

Our goal is to provide clear, factual information so people understand what’s on the ballot.

🗓️ Saturday, April 18 | 10am – 12pm
📍 Whittier Cafe, 1710 E. 25th Ave, Denver

The coffee, and the facts, are on us!

Save both dates. We'll see you there!
