Get to know our 2024 speakers

KIMBERLY BUDDIN

Michigan attorney specializing in civil rights policy and governmental affairs. She has experience in civil rights, human rights, municipal, immigration, family, and criminal law. She currently serves as senior policy counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in the Justice Division. In this role she works to advance criminal legal reform across the country through state and federal work.

LISA KESSLER-PETERS

Lisa is an ordained minister, advocate, speaker, and author of Why I Tried to Die, a Story of Trauma, Resilience, and Restoration and How I Learned to Hide: Unraveling Shame and Rejection. She holds two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and a Master of Science in applied behavioral analysis.

MACKENZIE LECLAIRE

She holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in sociology and legal studies and a Master of Arts (MA) in sociology from the University of Waterloo. Mackenzie’s research, funded by the government of Canada, focuses on restorative justice and the social reintegration of people who have sexually offended.

MEGHAN MITCHELL

Assistant professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of North Dakota. She received her BS and MS from North Dakota State University and Ph.D. in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University. Her current work examines the areas of corrections, subcultures, and research methodologies.

WALEISAH WILSON

She is a dedicated criminal justice reform activist. She considers herself an “agitator” and good troublemaker who leans into dialogue and actions that will disrupt the oppressive systems harmful to the communities she serves and loves. She has dedicated herself to leveraging her extensive professional experience and networks to support impacted Georgians with overcoming the obstacles and stigmas they face upon reentry by connecting them to critical background-friendly resources.

Vicki Henry
Featured Speaker

Vicki has been involved in numerous efforts to improve the lives of those required to register and of those suffering collateral damage. These efforts include but are not limited to participation in marches and demonstrations, the planning and execution of three national conferences, testifying before various state legislatures, educating, speaking at conferences, and organizing. Vicki is a relentless advocate for our cause and for every individual subjected to the registry’s punitive, draconian laws.
