Mr. Dell:
One additional response for you on a question that will be addressed via email rather than at the meeting.

6. We received the following email concerning YOS and female offenders. Can it be addressed during the meeting –

The girls program is a concern. There are several reasons why it's difficult to solve.

One thing is the boys and girls are never mixed together, that is for the girls' safety. The only time they are together is at visiting, graduation and a few other isolated times. The second is there are only 3 girls.

Just realistically it is hard to provide the kind of programming that the boys have with just 3 girls.

YOS is trying to bring more girls in through the legislation that allows them to take kids from DRDC and bring them into YOS instead of other facilities.

The other issue is the building they are housed in is limited both for recreation and other activities compared to the boys. They do have some advantages ( i.e., TV's in rooms, 2 girls per room and single room when there aren't many girls). They have their own kitchen and exercise room. They do office work in the Warden's office.

YOS Warden Mike Romero is the individual best able to discuss and address these concerns. We encourage anyone with questions or concerns regarding YOS to contact Warden Romero, who will be able to discuss and address these concerns most completely. Warden Romero may be reached at 719-583-5707 or via email at mike....@state.co.us
