I attended the annual fundraiser for Prayers For Prisoners Int’l that was held here in Colorado Springs. They are actually based in Cañon City which has the largest concentration of prisons in the State of Colorado.
While they are a faith-based organization that provides ministry here in Colorado facilities, they also provide an open door for people who want to be involved in prison ministry but cannot physically go to prisons. Prisoners fill out prayer request cards or write to us to let us know what they would like God to do in their lives. We then send these personal prayer request to a volunteer who will regularly pray for the prisoner.
This effort is nationwide and they even receive requests from other countries where the inmates have heard about what they do.
Additionally, they operate a Christmas Card Outreach opportunity for volunteers outside of prison to send a personal Christmas card to a prisoner.
Both of these outreaches are important as many prisoners don’t receive anything for Christmas, so a card from a stranger with a note inside means the world to them! To think that someone who doesn’t even know them would take time to send them a Christmas card makes an unbelievable impact in their lives.
