Subject: Mandatory Prison for SAOC Senate Bill 26-111 will be heard Wed. 3/18/26 at 1:30pm

Senate Judiciary Committee, Old Supreme Court, 2nd Floor, Colorado State Capitol
Witnesses are needed to testify for 2-3 minutes in opposition to Senate Bill 26-111 (https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/SB26-111) about why mandatory prison sentences under the Lifetime Supervision Act followed by 10 years to life or 20 years to life prison for all Sexual Assault on a Child crimes are bad policy.

Examples are helpful. This is a different committee but the same bill as last year so if you prepared testimony last year, you can reuse your testimony. The committee may also ask follow-up questions.

In person testimony is best but it can also be delivered remotely and/or written testimony may be submitted. You should be able to sign up starting tomorrow (3/11/26) at this link: https://sites.coleg.gov/public-testimony/sign-up-to-testify/step-1
You can sign up at any time before the testimony is closed so if you become available at the last minute, it's not too late.

You can listen to the hearing live at this website if you need to track the progress:  https://sg001-harmony.sliq.net/00327/Harmony/en/View/UpcomingEvents

Schedule: The exact timing of the day will be difficult to predict and hearings sometimes run well into the evening. We will see if any other bills are set. We are anticipating a large volume of witnesses and sometimes the chairs alternate panels. If you have a specific window of availability, I'll try to pass that along to the Chair. Last year in a different committee (House Judiciary) testimony on this bill lasted more than 6 hours.

If you are driving and planning to stay for the entire hearing, I'd recommend finding longer term parking than 2 hour on street parking. There is a paid lot on Grant between 14th & Colfax on the east side of the Capitol and some cheaper lots a few blocks over, e.g., 17th & Logan or 17th & Penn.

Logistics: Public entrance is on the south side of the Capitol from 14th Street & Sherman into the basement level. You will have to go through a metal detector.

Then you can take the elevators (or stairs if you're up for it!) to the 2nd floor. The hearing will be in the Old Supreme Court on the north side of the building.

No food or drinks are allowed in the committee room but you can come and go as you wish.
