This includes information on sending stamps to individuals within the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDoC) so they can message back, however, as of 2024-10-07, this option is not allowed.

Since the Dept. can’t be bothered to provide any instructions, and SECURUS can’t be bothered to deal with the individuals that actually buy their services, here is a basic guide on using the eMessging service.

This is important, as the SECURUS has rolled out the eMessage service in place of JPay for those incarcerated within the CDoC.

After establishing your account with SECURUS Technologies (https://securustech.online), sign back in and you will be taken to the My Account page. You will see a dashboard of information on your account. Go to the bottom of the page and you will see eMessaging.

Click on the Launch button. (The Purchase Stamps button is a short cut that you should not use till you have used the eMessaging service the first time.)

It brings you to the main eMessaging page.  Main eMessaging page has 7 options on the left-hand side -Compose, Contacts, Inbox, Sent, Draft, Total Stamps and Credit Card Information).

The first thing you will need to do is add at least one (1) contact.

Hitting the Add Contact will take you to the page to enter the contact’s info. You can use either their Name or ID number. The SECURUS system is used at multiple facilities (County or State). When you click on Colorado, it will provide the following listing: Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, Chaffe County Jail, Clear Creek County Jail, Colorado State Prison System, Delta County Jail, Denver County Jail, Douglas County Detention Center, Fremont County Detention Center, Jefferson County Sherriff’s Detention Facility and Park County Detention Center (As of 2024-10-07).

We’re only going to be dealing with the Colorado State Prison System (Colorado Department of Corrections – CDoC) in this guide. The other facilities may not have the same pricing or service options described below.

Enter the information and then hit the SEARCH button. Confirm the add, and you will be shown a list of your approved contacts.

Two points. The addition may require approval as the CDOC has to insure there is not inappropriate contacts (i.e., victims, associates). Second, some individuals may not show up as the CDOC does have individuals in Protective Custody where their name and ID number are not publicly disseminated.

Click on the Stamps tab, you’ll see there are 4 tabs – Purchase, Transfer, History, Total Stamps(##). Total stamps reflect the total of all stamps purchased through SECURUS and includes all agencies (County or State) that you have purchased stamps for. Stamps are not interchangeable through agencies (i.e., stamps purchased for Denver County Jail cannot be used for eMessaging individuals in the CDoC).

You first select a Contact. If you write to more than one person at the Dept., don’t let this throw you. The stamps you buy can be used for more than one contact.

Each message will take 1 stamp ($.25) and you are allowed up to 5 attachments, photo or an eCard from SECURUS’s library. Photos must be in JPG format and although it’s not stated (no surprise), there is a limit to the file size for the photo attachments (not listed, trial and error). The file should be no larger than 1mb. Photo size can be managed through an app like Paint.Net (freeware).

To send a photo or eCard, you must also send a message. Each attachment is 1 stamp. So, even if you are only sending 1 attachment, you must also attach it to a message.

Next, you’ll be given the option for purchasing Stamps. The Stamps are $.25 each and you have to buy in the following blocks.

             7 Stamps Package ($ 1.75)

           20 Stamps Package ($  5)

           60 Stamps Package ($ 15)

You can use the option to save the Credit Card info the first time you purchase, so it is saved for future use.

Once you have purchased stamps, you can then transfer some or all of them to an individual so that they can eMessage back. (See below)

On the Stamps page, you click on the Transfer tab. Once on the page, you select an individual from your Contact list and choose how many stamps you want to send them, and it will be deducted from your balance. As noted, this option is blocked as of 2024-10-07.
