The fentanyl ballot measure will substantially increase prison sentences in Colorado for drug offenses where fentanyl has been detected.

Dear friend,

Thank you for your continued partnership with Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition. Because your organization already stands with us in opposing prison expansion, we are reaching out to invite you to join the “Get the Facts: On the Fentanyl Ballot Measure” Coalition.

This November, voters across Colorado will decide on a ballot measure that would substantially increase the prison population and cost the state nearly half a billion dollars in new incarceration and prison construction costs.

Our fact sheet outlines what this measure would do, including:

  • Make possession of any amount of fentanyl a felony, including many first-time cases — even if someone did not know fentanyl was present.
  • Allow an 18-year-old who shares a single pill with a friend to face the same 8–32 year prison sentence as the highest-level drug trafficker.

Our goal is simple: to ensure Colorado voters understand the consequences of this measure before they vote, and understand who is behind it.

As a coalition member, we ask that you help share the fact sheet and other materials, promote events, and circulate information with your members and networks so voters have clear, accurate information.

This is a (c)3 compliant, nonpartisan, issue-education campaign. If your organization would like to participate, we would welcome the opportunity to connect and share upcoming ways to get involved.

In solidarity,
