I got this note in an email from the City of Longmont, and thought I'd post for any other interested developers in the area:

There Should be an App for That

Calling all hackers! The City will host the first Longmont community hackathon in March to develop technological solutions to everyday problems. But first we need to identify the issues to work on. The city council is inviting the public to share ideas and help develop a list of apps that can make our lives easier at 7 pm on Tuesday, January 15, in the Longmont Civic Center at 350 Kimbark Street. Those suggestions will be used to challenge local techies to spend a marathon weekend developing solutions to benefit our community. Would you like an app to help you find bicycle parking? Maybe you want to find all the public art in Longmont. Or perhaps you’d like to know what fresh produce is for sale this week at the farmers’ market. Whatever your ideas, bring them to this open forum for consideration.

Hi everyone,

We're working on uploading our data sets and still have some more to do but we've made great progress and have 10 mapping services available http://data.opencolorado.org/group/city-of-longmont as well as some other data sets that will be static that we will be adding to our collection.

We've got 8 days now til our first civic Longmont Hackathon event begins next weekend on Friday, 4/12.

Still time to sign-up to join us. http://longmonthackathon.com/ or register at http://longmonthackathon.eventbrite.com/?ref=ecount.

We have a lot of young developers from our local schools that will be participating and we're really hoping for some mentors out there to join up in teams with them at their first hackathon. Please spread the word for us.

We appreciate it!

Hi,

As a local developer, I'd love to participate, but I have other commitments that prevent me from being there for the whole time. I have signed up as an observer, is there any way I could work with a team on a drop-in basis as available?

Thanks,

Seth

Hi Seth,

I would sign up as a developer and reach out to folks through our Google Community where we're hoping that people looking to team up will gather and meet other developers.

We have also planned for Friday night to be the time to gather into teams. I would try and make it Friday if you can so you can join a group.

I don't see an issue with just volunteering where you can as well. We would love to have any and all coders available to help our teams.

Thank you so much for your interest.
