Dear community,
I'm adding my voice to many, in sadness and with a sense of deep loss and appreciation, on learning of Chartwell Dutiro's passing....
Meeting and hearing this brilliant musician and tradition-bearer several times over the years, in New Mexico and @ Zimfest, was an incredible joy and privilege that deeply affected me. His recordings with "Timbila", "Spirit Talk Mbira", and for many years with Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited, are lasting treasures.
Here's a heartfelt article and several videos from friends who were very close with him. Thank you, dear Chartwell: may your soul and memory be at peace, and all the ripples of your music continue to heal and comfort this world....
