McGoohan would have had to have gone to Munich to do this. Jerome Courtland, who was the star of the Viking show, is referred to in the American press as "filming in Munich", so I think the Canadian linkage is an error. The Kirk Douglas movie was filmed in Munich - hence the continuation there for a TV series. The newspaper refers to each episode taking six days to make.
