Howdy,

Comcast just screwed me over today. They dropped my line from 50m
down, 20 m up to supposedly 16 down, 2 up but in reality I'm getting 1
up and 1 down. Does anyone have a lead on a good service with a high
upload speed and static IPs? I can't even use my telephone.

Joey

ps. Comcast is still charging me $89/mo too.

Joey - If they've rolled the fiber out for Century Link in Longmont, I'd suggest checking with them.  They actually had good service when I used to have them ( in the Qwest days ) but they couldn't offer anything more than 12 Mbps / 768 Kbps so I had to jump.

Cheers,
David

Also - I'm not sure if this is available in your area - but my parents have it and are fairly pleased...  you might want to use this as a backup though, as wireless broadband is certainly unreliable during high wind days.

Wifi or wired? I had similar issues, but it turned out not to be comcast.

Skybeam doesn't handle VOIP well, or did not a few years ago anyway.

My teammate at work lives in Longmont and is familiar with your problem.
He says you might want to try and power-cycle your router if you have
not already done so. Otherwise, your options are extremely limited.

I have the Century Link at home in Lochbuie, and it is barely
acceptable. Mostly, their routers stink, like a dead body with no ice.
But... for shell access into our work servers... its fine. (as long as
I use screen to protect my connection)

Good Luck
Kevin

No home-based Satellite system ever will. Too much latency.

Yeah did that a few times. It appears to be no-notice service
downgrade. I'm really aggravated because it's been fabulous since
2009 and then presto, over-night I can't do my job.

Seems too strange to be true. What did Comcast support have to say about it?

I had a weird occurrence a few months ago with Comcast where my connections dropped dead suddenly. After contacting them I found out they were running through some sort of audits that dropped your service to your modem if everything didn't check out right. After talking with them they resolved the issue. It appeared to be because I was receiving x type of data through this modem rather than through this other modem. Regardless.....bad user experience   BUT no one close can match their speeds so her I sit still using their service :-/

Thanks,

-Simon

Sure does seem strange. Their response was "it's working normally". I
called business customer loyalty and they are sending out a tech this
afternoon to see if there's any issue here.

Until last year I had comcast business class at home, and still have
it at the office. Comcast business is costlier, requires a 1 year
contract, cannot be "merged" with your residential account, but it may
be worth it for you. I don't know the pricing but I can say for
certain that it's lower latency, more reliable, no data caps, static
IPs, and the speed is more reliable (Due to QoS settings on the CMTA,
almost certainly). You also get 24/7 tech support, who will come to
your house at 11:00pm at night and rerun your cable (Happened to me!).
Other than that, and planned outages (you get phone calls 1 day in
advance), I never, ever had issues with comcast business. I wish I
still had it but I no longer need unlimited data and static IPs, so
I'd rather not pay for them.

So after contacting Comcast loyalty and telling them they just screwed
me over.... the sent a tech out.

Tech says "oh, you're running hot" and puts in a 12 db upstream
attenuator. I now have 63m down and 24m up.

I told the loyalty manager to go fire those call center people.
