[CoLoCo] New [Ubuntu] startup sound

Is anyone else running the Intrepid Ibex release?

I am running it on my external drive, and have noticed a new startup sound after doing the latest updates.

It only seems to play 75% of the time though. I like the new sound better, even though i did like the old startup sound too.

I was going to file a bug report, but don't know where the problem would be.

My Ibex systems seems to play this file 75% of the time now:

/usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo/desktop-login.ogg

and the old one 25% of the time:

usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/desktop-login.ogg

link? My ibex test box has no sound card.

Actually I'm not sure if i like it more or not. In the end it really doesn't matter.
One has to wonder though if it is something from upstream or another distro like debian.
it was in a folder called "freedesktop" as apposed to the "ubuntu" folder the old is in. Just for kicks i restarted before uploading it, and the old one played this time.

I turn off login sounds as I find them annoying. The last thing I want is some loud noise coming from my computer as I boot it up in a library or coffee shop.

Yeah, i think i like the old one. Kind of like an african tune or something. But, i'm still wondering if this new one is from upstream or something. Anyone know?

Davey likes the old one. I like them both. Can we get a "random sound from this
folder" setting and throw in a few of our own? The first thing I'd add to my "random
startup sounds" folder would be the sound of Bloodlust being cast in Warcraft 2.

That brings up a side topic. How does one train Iceweasel/FF/Swiftfox
to respond to ogg files, and what is the best program (preferably not
gnome-centric) for that purpose?

But, it doesent work with the one I uploaded with googlepages. it must be a google error.

and if you don't like totem try this "sudo apt-get install mozilla-mplayer"

I already have the mplayer plugin, and it works just fine for most
everything except ogg files. I'll have to do some googling.

Interestingly enough I have all the ogg/vorbis stuff, and mplayer
plays the ogg file just fine. It's just a plugin/mime problem. Haven't
found much via google yet.

Absolutely maddening! Any other ogg file plays normally, but not the
url posted by Andrew. Maybe googlepages is throwing in some garbage.

Google often-times tries to embed files within another document using a strange embed or object tag...  I found that they do it ALL THE TIME with images and videos..  go figure.  : (
