I would like to upgrade, but a laptop without wireless is useless. The Driver is there but no connection. I have tried three different ISO images and the normal upgrade package. All have required I re-install 10.10 to have a working laptop.Thanks.

Sorry I have been slow to respond.  But if you want to bring it around one night this week to my house, I could try an Oneiric live boot jump drive, and see what we could figure out.  Let me know when you would be available.  My kids said they say you the other day, so I was just thinking of you.

Give that a shot.  Made the broadcom on my alienware m11x r1 happy.

I had problems with broadcom on a Dell mini 9 with 10.10.  So, I skipped that release and have not had any issues with 11.04 or 11.10.

I had this issue on a laptop. Try adding -backports and installing
the updated BCM driver from there

I believe the backports repo is enabled by default in 11.10 - so you might have good luck with just the default install setup.
