Two minutes to great coffee |

I’ve tried more than 75 coffee makers during my time at BA, and the best ones have always been real precision machines: appliances that regulate their hot water output with the militarism a thrifty parent brings to their teenager's shower time.
Sometimes, though, you don’t need perfect coffee, you need better coffee. I’ve gulped down enough crappy hotel and Airbnb coffee to know just how nice it is to bring a coffee maker on the road with you. And there are quite a few bantam brewers that make impressive cups.
These five are the most convenient travel companions I’ve tried. |

Technically, if you believe hard enough, any coffee can be portable coffee. I was on a trip once and saw someone take a Nespresso Vertuo out of their suitcase—but I wouldn’t recommend you try that. Everything on this list can fit into a coat pocket and brews espresso shots, cups of drip, or strong cold concentrate in two minutes or less. Just add hot water.
