Bon Appétit

Amazon’s Big Deal Days event kicked off in the wee hours of this morning. Oh, did you already know that? Did the hundreds of Prime Day subject lines in your inbox and ads in your Instagram feed tip you off?

I lead the shopping and reviews team at Bon Appétit and I know that these sales can be overwhelming not just because of the sheer amount of deals, but because we're hit with a deluge of promotion from every publisher we subscribe to and store we shop at. I'm an editor, but I’m also a consumer, so my own Gmail is chaotic too—and honestly, it’s stressful! And annoying!

Because here’s the thing: Discounts are worthless if you don't really need the thing in the first place.

I hate to be all “we’re not like other girls,” but at BA, our goal isn't to get you to buy more, more, more. We want you to spend your money on quality tools that will last you a very long time. It just so happens that taking advantage of sales like Prime Day is actually a smart way to score a great value—if you're strategic about what you buy.

That’s why our Prime Day coverage only showcases products that we personally vouch for, either because they’ve wowed us in the Test Kitchen, we use them in our own homes, or they’re from brands that make consistently high-quality stuff. We’ve also updated our usual “best of” lists to highlight the items that are on sale. So if you know you’re in the market for an espresso machine, for instance, you can use our Best Espresso Machines article to guide your purchase instead of sifting through reviews on Amazon.

Hope this helps—stay sane, everyone.
