RE: COLMAP 3.5, Commit a6a8f35 on 2018-08-23 with CUDA, Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit, 64 GB RAM, OpenGL 4.6, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti with current drivers

I've tried repeatedly to get Colmap to run after having defined and saved a new project, created the database and path to images, accepted all default values, etc., in accordance with video outline https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-EC0DzeVEU

Processing, Feature Extraction, crash! Never gets past this point, never processes features, simply crashes, every single time.

Are you running this through Remote Desktop or without an attached display? Did you try to follow these instructions: https://colmap.github.io/faq.html#fix-gpu-freezes-and-timeouts-during-dense-reconstruction ?

There is only one desktop; no computing is being done remotely.

Reconstruction?  - I'm unable to get past the start of feature extraction.

Hello, I have a similar problem: I noticed that it gets all the available memory (99%) making the pc unusable (GPU is at 0%).
Yesterday I tried to let it go overnight ant this morning I found a BSOD with the error warning "video-memory-manager-internal". Wich seems that the problem was the GPU and not the RAM.
Help please.

Hi, the 3.5-dev.2 (committ 9f7065999f419e4283eac34adf49923c4d233361) is working where the "latest" (commit a6a8f3558cfc6e9b9181385b2c84f80f2e679528) crashes.

It's a dumb question but how to start the 3.5-dev.2 version? I open colmap bat file in the shell folder and nothing happens (same for running tests).

So, the only major difference between the 3.4 and newer is that the newer binaries are built with CUDA 9 vs CUDA 8. Do you all use the CUDA or non-CUDA version? Can you please try updating your NVIDIA drivers and see if that changes anything?

Next week, I will try to compile a version with CUDA 8 and upload it to GitHub. It would be great if you could check wether that version solves your problem. I will ping you in this thread.

Thanks,
Johannes

@Johannes
RE: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti, Driver version 391.35, NVIDIA CUDA 9.1.84
COLMAP 3.4 (Commit 9f70659 on 20180719 with CUDA)
The naming conventions used by COLMAP in the interface i.e., 3.4, disagree with the website
The issue was present before and after updating NVIDIA drivers from 388 to 391
Running COLMAP 3.4 doesn't crash immediately unless Automatic reconstruction is attempted.
COLMAP 3.4 doesn't crash during Feature extraction as previously reported running COLMAP 3.5
COLMAP 3.4 allows Feature matching to take place without incident.
Reconstruction statistics indicate only about a third of the image dataset were used.
Bundle adjustment appears to take place without incident.
Dense reconstruction Undistortion appears to take place without incident.
Stereo consistently crashes COLMAP 3.4.
My numerous tests have used a single image dataset consisting of 30 geotagged images taken with my cell phone.
All tests, i.e., for COLMAP 3.5 and 3.4 have terminated with the program crashing, each and every time.
