e-mail: cvna...@gmail.com
Web site: http://www.collinsview.org/
Attendees: Prakash Joshi, Anna Browne, Maureen Diamond, Jeff Feld-Gore, Bob Fischer, Dana Fischer, Kimberly French, Dave Johnston, Dixie Johnston, Charlotte Joshi, Gene Lynard, Andrew McCarthy, Maryellen Read, Ralph Read, Samantha Walker
Meeting convened at 7:04 pm.
Follow-up on “Out of the Mud”—When Prakash contacted Rich Newlands after his November presentation, Rich indicated the city was looking for a clear letter of support from the neighborhood council; the city was not looking for suggestions to improve the initiative. Due to residents’ concerns, primarily about the local improvement district (LID) feature of the initiative, Prakash did not submit a letter of endorsement on CVNA’s behalf.
Crime and Public Safety—Gene reminded us that Officer Caspar received 2 awards at the Community Policing Reception on October 30. No other news for Gene to report.
Officer Caspar reported that things have been quiet in the last 3 months. There was an attempted burglary on Nov 18 in 8900 block of SW Terwilliger, which was foiled by a security alarm. There was some damage to the home’s exterior. There was also an episode of mail theft or vandalism on SW Maplecrest on Nov 13. Between S Burlingame and Marshall Park, there have been a few stolen cars. Older Hondas and Toyota Camrys have been targeted. Officer Caspar recommends a steering wheel lock device to protect cars that are kept outdoors.
A Neighborhood Watch presentation will occur at CVNA’s January meeting, most likely during 7 to 8 pm hour. Stefanie Adams will present. Officer Caspar encourages participation.
Land Use—Lewis and Clark (L&C) is proposing to add some cell towers. If you have questions, contact Dave Johnston.
Lewis & Clark (L&C)—Jeff has talked to Prakash re: some apparent student parking issues on Brugger, Maplecrest. Jeff will check with L&C security staff re: patrols. Classes finish this week and will resume Jan 20.
Transportation—Dave DelMar had written a note on Next Door about traffic back-up on SW Taylor’s Ferry at the intersection with Terwilliger. Paul Zabell (503.823.7184) manages traffic signals issues for the city and residents can contact him with concerns. Prakash believes traffic timing has probably been optimized in our vicinity; but we know that problems will occur from time to time. (According to a posting on Next Door, the city told Dave DelMar that a pedestrian crosswalk push button had been stuck on that date; they were unaware of this until his report of a problem).
General—Next Door web site (collinsview.nextdoor.com) seems to be gaining participants. Some residents are concerned about privacy. Participants can limit the information they place on Next Door, which is a fairly safe on-line community. “Alert” messages will come to participants as they occur (they should be rare, for truly serious situations), even those who choose to receive the digest. Davis and Samantha are taking leadership in making this work for CVNA. There was a discussion about how to optimize the site, with suggestions including a “bulletin board” to capture information/announcements that should be accessible to all site visitors. We can set up groups, such as a NET group; maybe we should have a CVNA group for info that is important to all.
Prakash is working on the CPR training for February or March through the fire station.
Adjourn at 7:45
Next meeting Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 7 pm at Riverdale High School, 9727 SW Terwilliger.
