Hi Collins Support Group!

I am exploring options to quickly and easily inventory all of our different machines as well as to expand to future hardware while providing a simple REST Api that we can use to build a simple reservation system on top of Collins.

We made an attempt to install Collins onto a virtual machine we have running on one of our clusters, however, upon installing all of the necessary components, we ran into a bug every single time we wanted to create a new asset on the command line interface.
The error we get is as follows:

fatal  your environment is not setup correctly
     message  collins.host is required

Any help would be very much appreciated in debugging this issue.

Hi Salil,

I'm going to need a bit more details about how you're trying to set it up, and where that error message came from.  Are you trying to use collins-shell?

Hi William,

I am using the collins-shell, after posting the previous message, the message I was getting has changed to the following:
exception  Connection refused - Exception talking to /api/asset/hello: Failed to open TCP connection to :80 (Connection refused - connect(2) for nil port 80)

This message is given to me after I run the following command: collins-shell asset create --tag="hello"

I feel like there is a possibility that we have not set up some part of Collins correctly however I am not sure what we can do to fix this issue.

Hi Salil,

Did you follow the setup steps necessary for collins shell (and many of the other tools that automatically authenticate to collins)
https://tumblr.github.io/collins/tools.html#collins%20shell

Are you able to visit the host that you put in .collins.yaml in your web browser?  Does the user interface appear?  It should look like the login photo here: https://tumblr.github.io/collins/overview.html#login
