I was at the collexion last night and Nick was telling me about the Ruby group. I like Ruby and want to learn it eventually, but right now I'm learning Python and I want to focus on that before moving on to something else. I'm wondering if there are any other Python users out there who would like to form an analogous Python group with me. Right now I'm trying to learn how to use Django and I'm completely lost about how it's even supposed to work. I installed it no problem, but I don't know what I'm supposed to do with it. I'm also interested in Cython, Pygame and SciPy.

Todd could definitely help here.  I think he has python and django chops.  I would be interested in learning more of both as well.

I don't know how much meeting time I could spend given family life +
very busy business life. However I'd be inclined to help when and where
possible.

I've been rolling django deployments for the last 4 years which results
in lots of internal guts that I've had to dig through over the years.

Cython / Pygame / SciPy I couldn't help with however.

My python is less good than my ruby, but I'm still game. I think the
first step is just to get the interested people together once, and let
it evolve out of that.

What's worked for the ruby group is to have small presentations and
lightning talks, a few per meeting, generally on a single topic (music
synthesis, native library integration, ...).

Just name the time and place for a very informal meeting, and we can
make it happen.

something on the southend increases the chances of me attending.

I don't know where else to run it except at the Collexion, which I think is on the norther part of Lexington. Do you know a place further south where we can do this? We have our usual meeting time on Wednesday, if folks want to have our first meeting then. Or we can even do it Monday or Tuesday night. I wont be available the rest of the week.

How about Tuesday June 3rd @ West Sixth Brewery?  I think they have Ale 8s for Todd and there are some nice tables for discussion and pints.  Thoughts???

Brian -- good point, but I was trying to follow Todd's suggestion of getting together and having some talks...finding out some common ground...common needs/wants/understandings.

I am open to whatever though.

Or it could be that I just want somebody to drink a pint with.  ;)

I put it on my calendar for the 3rd.  I'm okay with wherever.  Someone should get a pico projector, then it won't matter where.

I'm not a python hacker but I do drink beer - I will try to come as well assuming you guys are talking about Tuesday June 5 (and not Sunday June 3 - which I cannot make it to).

thanks,
Andrew

Thanks for the clarification Andrew.  How about 6 p.m. at West 6th on June 5th?

And I can bring a projector...they've got like 16 nanogallons of wallspace there....all with Soviet-era tile.
