Sorry, I can't make it.  Chris told me I should live in Kenwick, so I'm going to buy a house over there tonight.

Don't you go thinking about bidding against me, you little sniper.

Sherman is lovely. All the streets over there are, really.

We wanted a place with a garden.  And room for the kids to play outside.

Offer rejected. On the spot. Not even a counter offer.

It was like high school, all over again.

So...any CNC news tonight?

-dave

ps. Let me know if you see anything interesting.  We're looking in or around Kenwick, preferably over 2000 sq ft (I know...tall order in that neighborhood), preferably a fixer-upper.

We lost out on our first house as well.
And then found a better one.

There are a few neighborhoods in that area not just Kenwick.
I’m technically in Mentelle.

I would look for 1,500 + space they can’t include as square footage, like basements, sunrooms, attics, workshops etc...

Semi on topic...

Aurora Ave is blocking off the street and having a “fest” this Saturday afternoon\evening, should be some food and beer, technically it’s a pot luck I think, maybe BYOB, super kid and dog friendly.  They set up water slides for the kids and have music too.

No couches will be harmed in this production.

We did make some cuts with the machine.

Chris brought in some cool g-code that he generated in a google spreadsheet and we ran it.  It was interesting to see what can be done with some math skill, a spreadsheet, and text editor -- not requiring any CAD.

Jason and I made some modifications to the dust collection plate, cut it in luan, then decided to cut the acrylic.  hmmmm.  the results were interesting.  I posted pics on the facebook group.  We played around with a variety of feed and spindle speeds, but were not happy with the results.  The bit heated up the plastic which kind of "foamed up" then re-settled back in the cut.  On the second pass it did the same thing but mixed with MDF particles.  It kind of smelled like a combination of new-toy or computer (plastic) with roasted coffee. We ran the code again to re-cut the path with slower then faster speeds with about the same results.  In the end the Acrylic became glued to the MDF and it took a lot to pry it off.  I think we'll be able to use the pieces after we sand (or grind the edges).

Sounds like fun.  When we get the 1/8" collet in, I've got some v-point bits which should work well for engraving Chris's designs.

A for cutting the acrylic -- take a look on Joe's forum.  I'm sure there is advice there on speeds, feeds, tooling, etc.
