Okay... a 4x8 sheet of 1/4" expanded PVC runs $68, and should make almost 16' of chain.  I *think* that would be enough for our machine. Might be worth running by Home Depot and see what kind of 1/4" material (masonite? MDF?) we can get for $20 or so.

1/2" Acrylic sheet, 6" x 12" for a dust shoe runs $10.  They don't have *cast* acrylic, which is what I see mentioned a lot.  I don't know the difference, but I doubt it matters for a dust shoe.

Opinions?

I just dropped off the 4x8 black PVC sheet and 12"x12" 1/2" acrylic.  They are in the back corner, on the shelves near the maker bot.  "someday" I will figure out how to cut the e-chain and dust shoe from it.  But, I wouldn't be offended if someone beat me to it.  Feel free to use those materials for it.  I'd cut a test dust shoe out of wood first, just for testing.
