Happy National 4-H Week!
October 7-13 is National 4-H Week which is held annually as a time to celebrate, promote and share
the 4-H movement! This year highlights 4-H's work in science,
engineering, and technology. We hope that all clubs will join the national
movement to learn more about what is in store nationally for 4-H SET (science,
engineering, and technology).
America
presently faces a significant challenge - young people are not prepared
with the necessary SET workforce skills to compete in the 21st century
(Rising Above the Gathering Storm, 2006).
4-H is working towards a solution. With
its direct connection to the Cooperative Extension System's
cutting-edge research and resources of the nation's 106 land-grant
universities and colleges, 4-H provides youth with hands-on learning
experiences that foster exploration, discovery and passion for the
sciences.
Currently, 4-H SET projects reach more than 5.9 million youth*
in urban, suburban and rural communities across America. In order to
address our nation's challenge, 4-H is committed to involving 1 million new young people in SET projects over the next five years. More information is available at
http://www.fourhcouncil.edu/scienceengineeringtechnology.aspxWe want YOUR Collegiate 4-H Club to get involved! You are invited to the 4-H SET Launch webcast! Make sure to get a group of Collegiate 4-H members together to watch this, or at least a club representative. It will help your club to learn about the ways to get involved in the future with this exciting national initiative. We'll have more information available during your regional conferences and also at the 2008 National Collegiate 4-H Conference!
Space is limited, so we recommend watching in groups, so you're not denying someone else from watching!
