to CollectionDevelopment
One of the hats that I wear is Acquisitions librarian, which means
that I coordinate the collection development activities at my Library.
I'm trying to identify some "fun" events or activities that I could
host at my Library. My goals would be to get faculty involved in
collection building and/or weeding. I'd also like to make collection
development and weeding more interesting for librarians. We have eight
librarians, each a liaison to various departments on campus. Each of
those departments also has a representative to the Library for things
such as materials requests, etc.
Some of the things that we have already tried are:
weed and feed, where faculty came to the library and were provided
with an opportunity to eat and mingle while identifying books in the
collection that could safely be withdrawn
acquisitions day, which was one day during the summer (our slower
time) when i met with available librarians individually to demonstrate
some selection tools and talk about how they can benefit from them
I tried some searches on the Web to see what others might be doing,
but I didn't find much. Could anyone share any experiences?
