All -

Just to let you know that the Javascript/jQuery curriculum building effort is happening at 108 W 39th St, 16th Floor on Saturday from 11am to 2pm.  After which we will potentially head to the hack/change event down at NWC.

Right now, the coming course is planned for mid-March with six weeks of work - Monday and either Wed or Thurs (not confirmed yet) and one weekend day for two to three hours each day.

We are soliciting from NYC startups and companies non-critical path projects that require the use of Javascript and jQuery to get accomplished.  If you wish to set up a project in this fashion, please email me.

Who is Invited?
Since this is an alpha program, we are looking to invite people who have a basic programming proficiency in at least one procedural language.  This means that complete novices to any programming is currently not part of this program.

We have heard that a number of companies are suggesting their "junior" Javascript developers consider this course, and are happy to invite them in.  The course will be relying on developers who can work with others so they can grow though questions and paired programming.

You taking just ANYONE?

There will be an intake process for the class - to demonstrate minimum skills.  If you have high rankings on Stack Overflow or other sites (e.g., Forrst) or have at least two senior programmer references, then the intake may not be unnecessary.  We do ask that you signup for the course via this link: http://bit.ly/alphacollabcode

The Projects

We are planning on having between four to eight "projects" that the participants will partake in.  These projects can be self-directed or be projects brought by the NYC startups/companies that are looking for  - potentially pairing up into twos or fours - with people of various skill levels in the class working with each other ongoing.

There will be an educational component where we will discuss software engineering concepts and Javascript and jQuery concepts to further extend the learning.  We intend that members of the program will also get opportunities to create coursework for the members to practice on.

What you get?
At the end of the program, all projects will be demonstrated and evaluated by the peers int he program and skills exercised will be identified in terms of mastery.  Additionally, if the companies/startups wish to use your work, then there may be some form of compensation for your efforts.

Interested in spelling out the remainder of this program?  Join us this Saturday for the planning.
