Dear Ms Barratt,
I've been asked to get involved with this community space and the first duty I can see is to ensure correct licensing.
Be very grateful for the benefit of your advice.
Can I please call or ideally visit you in the near future prior to making applications?

Thanks for the fast reply!

There has been an outcry at the prospect of yet another betting shop, and the community have come together to prevent that.
The clamour and the intervention of some notable local figures (including the local MP and several cllrs) has caused the lessor to temporarily suspend their attempt.
They've granted a free-of-charge a lease until 28th December through Green Lanes Strategy Group to Rob Chau on our behalf, whom I'm working with.
The space is to be used entirely for local community purposes whilst it is being re-marketed by the estate agents.

If enough interest is shown, the community itself will try to raise the funds to lease the space next year.

The community is to be asked to use the space to show that they do actually have a use for a community space in that part of Green Lanes.
Given the general lack of funding, some fund-raising activity will need to take place.
So far two or three people want to use it for free evening talks.
These talks involve the use of a projector.

More events will be put on this month - can you indicate which sorts of licences will need to be applied for.
Should an application be made, for instance, for a premises licence?
As we strictly control what goes on there, we can ensure:
a) No alcohol sales
b) No late night refreshment

What would help is to confirm that, if the occasional film is to be shown, that a single event licence would be cheaper than a month's provision.
This would enable the community to put on a film screening and perform live music once or twice in the evening during the month.

Finally, is there any provision for community activities to be considered differently from commercial ones as this is resolutely not-for-profit?

Hello Mr Setz

You may not need to speak with me at all, the first thing to establish is what type of business you wish to operate and that will dictate if a license is required or not.

Please let me know.

Hi Chris,

If you are intending to offer Live Music between the hours of 8am-11pm for an audience of up to 100 people there is no requirement for a license.

If you intend to show films or pre-recorded material you will needs to apply for a temporary event notice to cover for this, The cost is £21 and one application can last for 7days at a time, the capacity cannot go over 499.

You are allowed 12 applications per year to a max of 21 days whichever target you reach first.

The TENs must be submitted 10 clear working days before the actual event day.

If you are televising anything live then there is no licensing requirement.

If you are looking to offer recorded music a temporary event notice will be required in order to do so.

Does that help?

Really helpful, thanks!  Sorry for the silly questions - I have read the LBH website and googled around, I'm very grateful for your time and help.
So we can't apply for a month of TEN's as this exceeds 21days and we cannot hold any events needing a TEN that begin before 20th December to allow for ten working days notice.
Can one TEN cover a seven day period for a range of events or is it one TEN per different event, no matter how similar?
For a 2hr 7pm talk, during which pre-recorded video excerpts (which might contain music) are shown for adult educational purposes, is a licence needed?
If we stream live events to youtube that include pre-recorded inserts, I presume a TEN is needed - yes?

One TENs application can cover for 7 days, then you have to have a break of 24 hours before utilising a next TENS.

So you can serve 3 TENs application to cover for 21 days, allowing for 1 days break in between each one.

Your 2hr talk with video clips for educational purposes will be ancillary and will not need a license.

Live events will not need a license, the fact that pre-recorded adverts are shown will be considered ancillary.

Daliah
