Hi folks:
Something different this week - an 'Away day' ride, i.e a ride in less familiar territory with car or train assist to the start.
Starting at Long Melford Village Hall Car park, (opposite the Bull PH northern end of the main street just before a bridge over. The car park is to the rear of frontage building down a short drive. It is signposted.)
The route goes through picturesque upper Stour villages to Haverhill for coffee. Continuing northwards we cross the gently rising East Anglian chalk lands to Newmarket with a long descent into town for lunch at Wetherspoons, passing the world famous bloodstock
sales yard of Tattersells as we enter town. Leaving via a steady climb past The Gallops to Moulton, an ancient Packhorse bridge just off route, we then head south gently rising then descending through attractive villages, before a long and very attractive
minor road descent into the Glem valley just before emerging back to Long Melford. 52 miles in total.
This is one of my favourite Suffolk rides. Not easy, but not especially hard and very rewarding scenery for the effort. I would like to share it with you.
If you would prefer to come by train, trains leave Marks Tey for Sudbury at 8.16 or 9.16, and return at 15.41 or 16.41 So we will be home in time for tea. Sudbury is 5 miles from the start at Long Melford. Car Parking at Melford is by voluntary contribution
box.
Here is the link to the route. Attached is a GPX file copy.
I hope to see you at L Melford Village Hall Car Park at 9.30 for a 9.45 start. If you intend to come by train, please email me before Sunday (
pbfe...@hotmail.co.uk), or text 07484 643356, and we will wait for you for a slightly later set off.
