Hi Friends.
If you have today's Inquirer there is a long story in the South Jersey section about the long-delayed Mt. Holly Fair Housing project. Note that the initial phase is being financed by the Redevelopment Fund, headed by Sean Closkey, former Romero Center Director. The Fund invests for organizations wishing to restrict their funds to socially responsible activities. Many communities of Catholic nuns have dedicated their retirement funds to doing good, through lending money. Also mentioned in the article was a lawyer from the Fair Housing firm headed by Peter O'Connor. Our recent speaker, Rev. Dodson is part of this group, as is Kevin Walsh whom we have had speak in nthe past.
Good things are finally happening despite recent efforts to scuttle the Affordable Housing Commission in New Jersey. We need to be part of this important work. Just imagine the emotional turmoil suffered by these Mt. Holly families who have faithfully paid mortgages and maintained their homes for 10-20 years, only to be threatened by eminent domain.
Peace,
Claire
