My name is Martina and I am the secretary at the national board 2014 / 2015 of Ladies Circle Austria.
This time I am getting in touch because of a very personal item.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010.
At the beginning of your 30ies, you are not aware of your mortality; you are still convinced to be immortal. It takes some time for the sudden diagnosis and all resultant consequences to sink in. The disease changes everything – your everyday life, your relationship with other people, even your self-perception. I came to the conclusion that it is also very hard for relatives and friends to deal with the situation. This experience made me start two things:
1.) I am now working more or less one day a week for the breast cancer society in Austria.
2.) I sold my company in December 2013 and started with the book project Close Calls by Kurvenkratzer.
With my book, I would like to draw attention to the fact that not only the patients need help;
most of the time it is at least as important to support the immediate family members, to ask them
‘How are you?’ ‘What do you need?’ and ‘How can I help you?’”
Only then, these people have enough strength to stand by the diseased person in the best possible way.
The aim of the book is to create a consciousness for cancer.
It manages to do so in showing the differences between the approaches, so the reader has more choices, too.
Another characteristic of the book is the artistic aspect of the photos made by various photographers.
We resolved to an experiment where we include the reader from the beginning.
The book is funded over the world’s biggest crowd funding platform, called “Kickstarter” –
which means that everyone interested in the book, the authors or the cause can contribute a freely chosen amount
to the book’s funding and, in return, receives really great rewards (e.g. the book in advance sale).
And this is where I need your help:
This is a personal appeal for your help and support for a very important and close to my heart project.

We (my team and me) wish to create a publication for cancer patients and their support team that is meant to be informative and helpful.
Close Calls will break taboos and create awareness.
The Close Calls funding will be open until June 28th.
If we will not reach our goal in that time, we will not get any money at all and my dream to realize this project will not come true.
In a few simple steps anyone can support Close Calls from anywhere in the world.
How can you help?
· I would really appreciate it, if you could share my project with the Circles in your country.
Can you please ask them in my name for help and can you please ask them to share the project link with the video with all their family and friends.
I am thankful for any kind of support one can give, however small it may be (from 1$ on)!
We hope to motivate at least 3.000 people to back our project – no matter the value of their pledge, be it big or small.
Every backer (name for investor on Kickstarter) equals one person more that has actively thought about cancer.
