As a member of the death positivity movement, I see very commonly how the natural progression of death is cleaned away and tidied up. We spend most of our natural lives avoiding the idea, desperately trying not to age or show the inevitable march towards the earth in any facial lines- any hint at death is met with abject horror, denial or even anger, then as soon as we die we are marked as unclean, tidied away into boxes and filled with chemicals to halt putrefaction. It is a terror that is so rarely seen in the harsh light of day. It is a primal reminder of our humanity, and society today rebels against it. As soon as the giant begins to decay, so does his value, and he is swept away from sensitive constitutions, scrubbed from the earth.

I watched all of this with a sad frown, the layers and layers of my thoughts unfolding like a weathered rose- the horror of disrespect, a pained empathy, a little mourning and on top of it all, that bitter lack of surprise.. I knew an outlet was necessary, so I resolved to share and encourage others to watch it. I can only hope that such a beautiful and sad reflection will give others pause to reflect on the fleeting beauty of life, and the value of sharing and preservation.

Essentially a survival film setin space, Helping Hand tells a storyakin to that of Gravity (2013). Afterspace debris causes a malfunction in her life support system and sends herdrifting in space, a lone space engineer must make a small sacrifice in order tosurvive.

The short is but another love letter to the art form that is animated filmmaking. It features beautiful, breathtaking scenes that are nothing less than memorable, even when grouped together with the plethora of animated marvels featured in the series.

Brad North is a Supervising Sound Editor for television and film. He has 22+ years of experience and has worked on shows such as Stranger Things, Bosch, Love, Death & Robots, Shadow and Bone, Mare of Easttown, Station Eleven, and Watchmen.

Brad North: Growing up I had a passion for music and movies. While in high school, I thought that a career path for me could be composing for feature films. During that time, Jurassic Park came out. There was a special on TV with Gary Rydstrom on how they did the sound for Jurassic Park. They showed how they made the sounds for the dinosaurs and how they crafted a scene by taking out the music and only hearing feet, and then it builds from there. I thought that was really cool and interesting. It exposed me to post-production sound, so I looked into it. I ended up going to Full Sail in Florida and got a Recording Arts degree.

DS: Jurassic Park was a big inspiration for me too. One of the big sound moments in that film that made me realize how powerful sound was, was the dinosaur footsteps and the cup of water. You see the vibrating in the cup of water and hear the footsteps. It just built this tension. It was very cool.

BN: I have the Krotos Everything Bundle, so it comes with a lot of library sounds. I love the Krotos library. The big effects are dynamic and interesting. The hard effects sounds are well recorded and have some life. The Foley and movement libraries sound full and real.

It's been four years since my mom died of cancer, and not a day goes by where she doesn't pop into my thoughts. I still remember the days she was sick. Seeing my strong and wonderful mother in such a vulnerable state was terrifying. I wanted to protect her; I wanted to save her. She stayed brave and beautiful through her last days, which was nothing less than I expected. After all, she was the strongest person I have ever known.

Grief has no timeline. We all experience loss in unique ways, and we cope differently when someone we love dies. While you may never feel completely healed, if it's any consolation, the empty spot you feel is there for a reason. It's the space in your heart that can be filled with love and memories of the person you lost.

If these few years have taught me anything, it's that although death cannot be fixed, love is stronger than death will ever be. We can choose to love people long after they are gone, and we can choose to keep them in our lives.

She was sick and vulnerable, and she was slowly on her way out of this world. Soon, she would depart us for somewhere else, and our family would be left behind. This strong and loving mom of mine was now in a hospital bed, still smiling at me despite her pain and fear.

When someone you love dies, your relationship with the person will never change. Your relationship will never die. It lives on forever in your heart, in your actions, in your thoughts, in your values and in your memories.

Sometimes our time on earth is cut too short. Our time in this world is precious, and when it ends sooner than we expect, we must have faith that something beautiful still lies ahead. This is not the end; it is solely the end of one chapter of many.

My greatest peace and hope came from my belief that the world had something more beautiful in store for my mom. She made her impact on this world, and it was time for her to be somewhere else where she could do the same. She was somewhere else where she could spread her magic in another way.

So when someone we love dies, when we feel like our whole world is falling apart, we can't allow ourselves to die along with them. Our loved ones want us to continue to live our lives and make them proud. They want us to be happy, to be sad, but not sad forever.

When we love someone who is leaving us, we have to understand and appreciate how much of a gift it has been simply to love this person. And even when the tears or numbness hit you, even when you realize you cannot stop the cancer, or keep the person's heart beating longer, you must remember what a sincere privilege it has been to have this person in your life.

Even when they are inching further away, slowly more distant, you will still feel the deep understanding and love when you look directly into their eyes. And when you tell them you will love them forever and ever, and they squeeze your hand, you know the beauty of love.

You will never, ever, ever be alone. Love really is forever, and our hearts have special pockets solely for those we love. We carry them everywhere we go. And this is where love is so truly powerful. This is where love overpowers death every single time.

I know that there is no canonical theory behind why 'The Man' and 'The Woman' are eternally chasing each other in The Witness, and the only ones I've heard are that they are both either in hell or purgatory.

The theme of the episode, as described by Alberto Mielgo, the director for the episode, is about relationships that are based on needs and not love. It's about how those involved keep coming back and back and end up both becoming a victim which is what we see with the cycle in the episode.

Mielgo, while aware of the backlash, says the nudity and sex portrayed in his episode were there for a reason. They are part of a deeper theme, which for him is about the nature of certain relationships and his own religious upbringing as a Catholic.

I don't think there is an in universe reason for why this is happening though. It seems to be more of a thought-provoking episode than something to be examined in detail and work out why things are happening.

Alberto Mielgo: I love cinema generally, and I do not enjoy family-friendly films that much. When I was a kid I watched them but now I need more stimulation. My favorite films are American films from the 70s, European and Asian films. I think Asian animation has been a step further in terms of the narratives. So because I love animation and because I love art I think that animation has every single kind of art you can imagine inside of it, and I want to explore cinema with the art of animation. Without the family-friendly limitations.

Alberto Mielgo: It came very soon. Originally I was thinking of a way of creating this lure to attract the knights with her singing. But then I thought instead of singing I wanted to create some sensual movement, and instead of singing she would scream and it would almost be obnoxious. Dancing is something I have always loved. I feel that dancers communicate emotions with their bodies better than anyone. I thought that a great way to create intoxication when you hear it is all of a sudden your body becomes dancy as opposed to minutes ago when we saw these tough knights walking very rigidly. Then all of a sudden when you hear the sound you obviously see a force that is taking over them, and dancing was the best way to represent this.
