Two days in a row I tried Safeway orders because... they just looked to be such good pay. And then I get to Safeway and pick the items out and get in line and follow all the instructions and when I slide my red card it asks me for my pin, every time. It even says credit while asking for it. It literally thinks its a credit card and that it needs a pin. I had to pay with my own card and the idiot customer support staff gave me the wrong instructions for reimbursement and now I'm pretty sure I bought a customers items last night literally because she gave me the wrong instructions (literally just told me to pay on my own card and they would reimburse me, didn't tell me to keep the receipt and since it took like an hour to deal with the incompetent time wasting idiot support I got so frustrated I threw the receipt in the bag and gave it to the customer)
I purchased 2 Apple Gift Card at Safeway. They are sealed. Loaded $100 each to each. But when i try to redeem using camera or manual enter, none of them work. The error: Cannot Redeem Code : The code entered is not valid. I tried both . They were both sealed and opened by me and upon entering the code, i got the same error message . I called Apple support for help, i was asked to read out serial on the gift card, while waiting for support to verify, I realized that the serial number on the card is actually different from the serial number printed on the envelope that start with "GCA..... ". Apple Support did not ask me to give them serial number specially on the card or the envelope. I was the one telling them it's different upon seeing it while waiting to clarify which one i suppose to give them to check. This should be part of their basic trouble shooting step to confirm if both serial number is the same or not. At the end they are not able to help me and they asked me to go back to Safeway . i wonder if the whole batch of gift card in Safeway have this issue??? Apple support said this is not their problem . We need to go back to Safeway to have this problem solve for. I will see what happened at Safeway, if they tell us this is Apple issue , i will be so mad.
I called Safeway gift card department today as they were closed last night after the cashier from Safeway was not able to help me and instead gave me the Safeway Corp GC dept number to report this problem since i suspect the whole batch of GC at Safeway might of have issues i don't want anyone else fall as victim. The way apple design inside and outside envelope as gift card is giving scammer opportunity to scam people. When you pay, Safeway will scan outside, there is no way to know content inside . And people usually buy GC for gifts so 80% of time the purchaser (victim) would never know receivers of the GC is not able to use GC. Unless for self use, i would tell people i know "do not buy Apple Gift card of this design where they can not confirm Serial Number outside env is the same is the actual GC Serial Number inside " as there is chance they will have to go through painful process like me wasting my time on the phone and go to the store for help. Gas is expensive and my time is expensive. It's such an inconvenience. Safeway now have a ticket for me and investigating the matter, i still have not gotten my money back at this point!! Such a bad experience with Apple Gift Card.
I am so mad, just got back from Safeway, like i predicted, they can't do anything about it. They asked me to call Safeway Corporate. I will never buy Apple gift card again this is very bad experience. There is no way you can tell there is something wrong with the gift card until you opened the seal try to load and struggle getting the issue fix. What a joke! I will submit a dispute with my credit card and tell everyone don't buy gift card as gift. Imagine you give this as a gift, there is no way you will know the receiver actually will get money !!!!! This is basically a scam especially if you are giving the gift card out.

I purchased two eBay gift cards for $200 each totaling $400 from Safeway in Hayward, CA within the last two weeks but when I entered the first gift card number during checkout I received a response stating that I could not use the gift card! So, I tried the other and it was the same thing! I immediately contact Safeway and was told to call back later in the morning to speak to someone at their customer service desk. I called back but was placed on hold which inspired me to drive there and inquire as to what was going on.
I arrived and was directed to customer service and after standing in line received my turn to speak with an associate. I told her of the occurrence and provided her with both gift cards and packaging along with the receipt with authorization numbers time and date and amounts. I was told that I should contact 1-800-SAFEWAY! Why should I do that if I was standing at the very store that I purchased the cards from with cards in hand as well as proof of purchase! After stating how that made no sense to me I was told that they would research the transaction and contact me.
After nearly over one week I had yet to receive a phone call so I contacted them again only to be told that customer service was on break. I had to ask to leave a message with a hesitant employee who did not wish to take the time to write anything down and did so begrudgingly. Still I left my contact information and the reason for my call. Two more days passed and today I answered a call from Safeway telling me to call eBay. I was confused as to why I would have to call ebay when I purchased the cards with their establishment. However, I was not going to make a fuss if that is what was necessary for me to recover my funds.
After explaining the situation to Hermi I was blind transferred to another representative in another department. After explaining again I was placed on several holds while she researched using the card numbers I was able to provide seeing as how they were physically in my presence. I was told to call the police and file a report! How would that help me get my $400? She became apologetic and said that was all she could do which equaled NOTHING! ZERO!
But shame on you Safeway for locking up a $30 bottle of vodka that you think might get stolen, but you have no common sense to keep the gift cards safely locked up behind the counter. How stupid is that?
