coi fi'i, hello and welcome!

This group is meant to become one possible first stop for newcomers to
Lojbanistan. I hope you will join me in making this a welcoming and
educational space, to gently introduce strangers to Lojbanic language
and ideas. Our main goal here is to teach people the sixteen words of
COI. Along the way, they'll meet some Lojbanists, and perhaps
experience a little of Lojbanic culture -- for instance this might be
a good place to help people Lojbanize their names, help them connect
with the community, and generally show them how to become Lojbananas.

Here are the words in COI:

ju'i COI attention
vocative: attention - at ease - ignore me
coi COI greetings
vocative: greetings/hello
fi'i COI hospitality
vocative: hospitality - inhospitality; you are welcome/ make yourself
at home
ta'a COI interruption
vocative: interruption
mu'o COI over
vocative: over (response OK) - more to come
fe'o COI over and out
vocative: over and out (end discussion)
co'o COI partings
vocative: partings/good-bye
pe'u COI please vocative: please
ke'o COI please repeat
vocative: please repeat
nu'e COI promise
vocative: promise - promise release - un-promise
re'i COI ready to receive
vocative: ready to receive - not ready to receive
be'e COI request to send
vocative: request to send/speak
je'e COI roger
vocative: roger (ack) - negative acknowledge; used to acknowledge
offers and thanks
mi'e COI self-introduction self
vocative: self-introduction - denial of identity; identifies speaker
ki'e COI thanks
vocative: thanks - no thanks to you
vi'o COI wilco
vocative: wilco (ack and will comply)

My vision is that we can gradually develop a library of interesting
ways of teaching those words. I'm planning to record an audio lesson
that goes over them, and I'd appreciate any suggestions about the
script. I'm not much of a visual artist, but I'm going to make a few
basic images anyway, and hopefully that will get the ball rolling and
someone will make some fun Lojbanic style cartoons or something. And
I think some of these would be fun words to demonstrate in a video,
for instance with some stick puppets or rocks or something that come
in and greet each other. Any other ideas for educational media we can
make?

I'd also like to try to teach the words in real situations. Some of
them are easy to make use of here, for instance we can say "coi" and
"fi'i" to new people who join, we can sign off with "mu'o" and "mi'e",
and we can respond to anything with "je'e". Some of them might
require a slightly more contrived situation. I think that we could
figure out some nice (realistic) promises to make to new people, so
that we can say "nu'e" to them. O doi new students, I will try to
think of some good things to promise you, nu'e.

If there is anything else that would help you learn the COI, speak up,
pe'u. When you say "pe'u", I'll say "vi'o", re'i.

I was wondering about vi'o today, it confused me, and I have taken
note of je'e today as well while I was on the plane, briefly studying
Lojban. I would love to make a little drawing sometime, so I'll try
and keep it in mind.
As well, maybe a video with stuffed animals. LOL. xD
I'll tell you if I do something of the sort.
