Dear colleagues,
The outbreak of Ebola in West Africa challenged the United Nations to
take action to stem a rapidly escalating health crisis, as it unfolded
across national boundaries. The Secretary-General responded by
appointing a Special Envoy on Ebola and establishing the UN Mission
for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER), the first UN mission for a
public health emergency. The Secretary-General now renews his call to
UN staff members who are interested in serving with UNMEER on
temporary duty assignment or similar administrative arrangements for a
period of 8 to 10 weeks. The activities of UNMEER beyond 31 December
2014 will be contingent upon the approval by the General Assembly of
funding for UNMEER. Please find attached the request from the
Secretary-General and the available posts.
UNFPA fully supports the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response.
Staff who are willing to apply to this mission should seek the
approval from their supervisor and from their head-of-office prior to
applying. Selection will be done by UNMEER and will be determined on
the basis of relevant qualifications, experience and ability to deploy
rapidly. Interested and eligible candidates are invited express their
