Peirce is the creator of the comic strip Big Nate. The strip debuted in 1991 in 135 newspapers, and currently has a client list of over 400 newspapers worldwide. Big Nate is also available online at gocomics.com, where in 2019 it was the site's second most-viewed feature, ranking behind only Calvin & Hobbes. The popular children's website poptropica.com has included Big Nate since 2009. In 2010, Peirce wrote the first of eight Big Nate novels for young readers. Published by HarperCollins, each book in the series was a New York Times bestseller. In 2011, Andrews McMeel Publishing began a series of Big Nate compilations. The series consists of 22 books to date and every one of them has been on the New York Times bestseller list. Under the AMP! Comics for Kids imprint, twenty collections have been released. Epic Big Nate, a coffee table book celebrating the strip's first 25 years, was published in 2016. Big Nate books appear in 33 different languages and have sold over 20 million copies.
Big Nate debuted in newspapers on January 7, 1991. The strip's main character is Nate Wright, an irrepressible sixth grader with a native and inflated sense of his own greatness. Peirce has said that Big Nate, which featured only six characters when it started, originated as a "domestic humor" strip, and that he intended to focus on Nate's family life. Soon, however, Peirce realized that "the gags I enjoyed writing most were the school jokes. Nate's life in middle school was where all the funny stuff was happening." Nate's school, P.S. 38, became the narrative center of the strip, and Peirce has added dozens of characters to the cast of classmates and teachers during the strip's run. Among the recurring characters are:[3]
In the span of 23 years the series has produced and published eleven print collections, seven book series and 4 activity books. The very print collection was published in 1992 only a year after it was first introduced. The first print collection was entitled Add More Babes! And it was released on January 6th of 1992. The second collection came in 2001, some 9 years after the first, but then releases of the collections were coming out more frequently having several in a year.
The Big Nate Series (By Lincoln Peirce) went on to publish 4 more book series up to the recent time. All four books, like their two predecessors, have received generally positive reviews from both readers and critics. There is also a seventh book series scheduled to be published in the early quarter of 2015 and its working title is Big Nate Lives It Up. It is scheduled to find itself on the bookshelves on March 10, 2015. It is something to look forward to since the series has become known for its great acclaim and positive reception.
The Big Nate book series, based on the Big Nate comic strip, chronicles the small and large dramas of life in the sixth grade with humor and style. Nate doesn't enjoy school, but, despite his sarcasm, he's a good kid. The mix of narrative and comics-style illustrations make each book a quick, fun read, even for reluctant readers, and the series especially appeals to boys. Other Big Nate books are collections of the comic strips. Check out both types we've reviewed. For more books with humor and visual appeal, check out our Funny Books for Kids and Graphic Novels lists.
The Big Nate books make up the series of novels written by Lincoln Peirce. This series contains eight books and lasted from 2010 to 2016. The book series are not canon to the comic strips. They are inspired by the strips but have differences and together create a whole plot, unlike the strips that have smaller, almost subplots that add to one universe. The books have some similarities to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.
Supposedly, these books are in a separate timeline than in the comics, since the books take inspiration from scenes in the comic strip, but they're not directly copying them. This is seen when Nate dates Ruby Dinsmore in Big Nate Blasts Off, as Nate has not been seen dating here in the comics.

The Big Nate books in order depict the shenanigans this middle schooler gets up to and the comics will have you laughing out loud as you turn the page. Nate Wright is a rambunctious sixth-grader who is doodling his way through middle-school enemies, new transfers, and unreciprocated crushes. His time at P.S. 38 is full of mistakes, blunders, and hilarity that make him so relatable.
The very first Big Nate comic debuted in 1991 in a string of newspapers across the U.S. Since then the world of Nate has expanded in comic strip collections, books, an animated series, an app, and more. The Big Nate books are sold in 25 countries.
In addition to all the comic strips and books, Big Nate also made the adventure onto the screen with a Nickelodeon animated TV series. The announcement came in February 2020 and the show premiered in February 2022.
Following the success of the Big Nate comics and comic strip collections, Lincoln Peirce brought the character of Nate Wright to a longer format with a book series. Each of these books has a self-contained storyline, but the books do follow a chronological timeline, so it would be best to start at the beginning of the series.
Finally, Lincoln Peirce has also published a dozen other Big Nate books which do not fit into the chronological timeline of the main series or the comic strip collections. However, these all contain hilarious stories about Nate that every fan should read.

We are the last chance stop for these books, through our partnerships, we sift and sort through these books and pull out any and all of the books in good condition(you'd be surprised what people throw away).
I ordered the twenty-five baby board books. They were shipped quickly. I was surprised to receive three books on opposite and one written Spanish. I called and spoke to a salesclerk and she quickly send me several replacement books. All arrived before Christmas. The books were in good condition and will offer reading pleasure for my grand daughter for several years!
I orderd 4 boxes of books thinking they were large print. When they arrived only was large print. My library is trying to expand our L.P. for our Senior readers. So 3 boxes were not L.P. I worked with a lovely lady named Charlotte who solved my program and will notify me when L.P. is available.

He attempts to make his courses intellectually but not emotionally demanding for students, combining heady ideas with a welcoming, supportive, and collegial atmosphere. He particularly enjoys working with first generation college students, having been first gen himself. Holdren also co-facilitates a writing group for Drake faculty. Over all, he tries to pursue both teaching and scholarship in a way that centers on building relationships of shared curiosity and intellectual excitement.
