Dear All,
BackgroundMy son has almost completed (formal results awaited) his M Tech in Thermal Engg from NIT Hamirpur (that's in Himachal Pradesh) & wants to pursue PhD somewhere abroad in some application of CFD.
His final aim is to work in CFD in industry, and not just academics.
He is yet to appear for GRE.
More importantly he needs to utilize this period to get acquainted with some real CFD to be able to decide about the exact topics of interest, then accordingly approach guides who are working on those topics, and finally be able to get admission.
With this in view, he had applied for PhD in India, and has been admitted in Aerospace at IIT Kharagpur, Mechanics (Fluid Mechanics) at IIT Madras. But, since he intends to eventually quit next year, he has another option to work as JRF at IIT Bombay. That seems to be the best option now.
But he is yet to converse with somebody who has done PhD and is working in industry, in CFD or Mech Engg.
Request for Guidance :
So, we seek advice / info for :
1. Is any of us working in CFD or related field?
2. Or, can you help connect to somebody?
3. Anybody amongst us who has done PhD in Mech Engg or related field?
4. Best path to follow for seeking admission to PhD, with assistantship / scholarship?
5. Options / possibilities between different places e.g. US, UK, Germany, Canada, France, Australia,...
6. Is my son on the right track? What course correction is required?
Guess, that's about it (for now)!
Thanks for everybody's patience in going through this mail,
- Suhas Thakurdesai
