=====forwarded message==============================
Hi friends,

My father Chintaman Risbud Age 80,  is being treated at Ambani hosp for Leukemia with chemotherapy for past 7 months at Ambani Hosp (Four Bungalows, run by Dr. Mandke trust - same hosp where Anvay Mulay is Head Heart Surgeon).

Father will be needing frequent blood transfusion for Red blood and also platelets, over next one month since a new Chemo cycle is about to begin.

Need your help on urgent basis for two things, during next few weeks:-

1. Identifying Platelet donors of B+ ve group and sending their contacts to me:
==============================================================
Father has developed a reaction to platelets of non matching groups. Platelets (blood clotting factor) need to be harvested fresh (a day or two before actual need when counts dip).

The platelet donors need to be B+, healthy, male (since females have small veins that create a problem when connected to platelet extraction machine), 20 - 50 yrs of age, not on any medication like BP, Diabetes and should not have contracted Dengue, Malaria, Chikanguniya, Typhoid etc. during last 2 yrs.

They need to come in for an immediate screening test (takes 30 mins for taking blood sample/filling a form) at the hosp and be on standby after being cleared. Will be asked for availability when the need arises. Actual extraction takes 2 hrs. One problem - extraction hours: 10 - 5pm, Mon-Sat. (screening hrs 10 - 6 pm).

Please send name/tel no. of any such potential donors you may know (your family members/friends) to me, by email or sms at 9823028696.

Already scanned lists of a few coop societies in Vile Parle + PTV Alumni list last month, for potential donors. Scanned hundreds of names, of which only a few met the above conditions: B+, Male, 20-50 yrs, no medication, willing to come during working days to donate.

As a result,  last month, 5-6 alumni and others donated platelets of which three proved very useful, others developed a reaction. So we need more names, of potential (and willing) platelet donors to help father withstand chemo.

2. Need regular blood donors, too:
===========================
We have been using Red blood as well as "mixed platelets" (less effective than single donor ones) available in the hospital blood bank (the latter when single donors are not available) regularly. Both these require B+ blood bottles to be consumed. Hospital asked me to spread the word that they are facing acute shortage of donors and expect me to mobilize more willing donors to come and donate at Ambani hosp. as our duty.

Hence, need your help to spread the word among family/friends - e.g. there are many who have a habit to donate blood every six months or so for a social cause.

Who can donate whole blood?

- Any healthy donor above 18 yrs of age
- Any blood group will do, not necessary to match father's group
- healthy females whose Haemoglobin is more than 12.5 g/dl
  (else will be rejected. Their experience: Only young females usually satisfy this criterion).
- once donated, can't donate for 3 more months.
   So potential platelet donors (described above) should be encouraged to contact me, rather than
   contacting hosp. as general donors first.

Timings: Come any time bet 10 - 6pm to Ambani Hosp, Four Bungalow Mon-Sat and donate your blood.
Tell them you came to donate blood on behalf of Mr. Chintaman Risbud.

3. Lists of donors at Co Op societies:
=============================
LBNL, would appreciate if you could send contact nos of potential donors of B+ group maintained at coop societies in Vile Parle/Andheri area. Already scanned such lists of Shivanand, Jai Hanuman, Parleshwar and of course PTV Alumni. Need more of these lists, since hit rate is 1 in 50. Thanks!

Note: There is NO MONETARY ELEMENT INVOLVED in all the above. The donor is not paid or charged and we are always charged blood processing charges irrespective of whether we bring donors or not. The BBank runs on a no profit basis.

thanks & regards,

Y.C. (Anil) Risbud
