To All the Family - and Friends  - Piece!

And a most Happy Thanksgiving to All !

I do hope that in spite of CV 19 you can have a most blessed and joyful day.
Of course, missing great family gatherings – that is really hard.

Yet, there is still so much to be thankful for – especially the persons who have touched our lives these days.
Much on my mind are doctors and nurses  and hospital Wake up attendance and hospital workers –
Thanks to those who help bring comfort to those in sorrow and to feed the hungry during these difficult moments – Thanks to all!

A special prayer for the gift of faith that helps us understand God's continuing love for us..

These days – let' u be sure to take care of one another –
Pope Francis put it well – the gifts we need are compassion and mercy

--       Compassion is how we feel toward others,, Especially those in most difficult situations
--      Mercy is our response –For the other

And – last of all – Have a wonderful and holy Holiday Season!

Blessings and Prayers for All –

Bill

Bill - Thanks for your THANKSGIVING DAY greeting.  Here's mine:  I think Trump should sue the Church. The Thanksgiving Day reading from Revelation is the fall of Babylon and the gospel reading is the fall of Jerusalem...It seemed that the Church's thanksgiving readings were selected by enemies of the greatest nation of all time and the greatest world leader since Caesar.  So on THANKSGIVING DAY Holy Mother the Church tells us that in God's eyes the great nations are in for the greatest fall.. But lucky for Trump, I don't think he will read today's mass. At least this treasonous note gives me a chance to wish all of us a deeper faith and a deeper love. Blessings, jim

Hi Bill,

WORKING THE NOVEMBER 3, 2020 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

Always good to hear from you. I worked the polls from 5:20 am to 8:30 pm in Dumont, NJ on election day. US Election polls are always manned by Democrats and Republicans. Outrageous that Trump cries and lies that the election is rigged, defaming brave workers and creating mistrust in the democratic process. Outrageous, too, that Trump sued our governor to prevent ballots being mailed to all registered voters. (Thank God Trump lost that suite.) New Jersey has been and still is a hot spot with Covid-19.

We election day workers risked our lives working the polls. If there were no mail ballots, the event would have have been the greatest super-spreader pandemic time-bomb in state history. (NJ already has c. 15,000 deaths.) Trump does not care about people, he cares only about organizing the greatest INFO-MERCIAL event in world history to make him the greatest super rich "loser" candidate.

I'm a Democrat who wrote him once at the WH objecting to some policy decision. Each day, Trump and his family email me 6-8 times a day saying the presidential election was rigged and he has proof and needs money now.  I saw him publicly and falsely tell a reporter, that, although he was cheated, he'd leave the white house on January 20, 2021.  But then he immediately he tweeted and emailed the opposite--he was fighting and won't leave and is getting more evidence and just donate more to him.

Say DJT tweets this request to 67 million followers and gets $10 three times from each follower during the next few weeks.  He'll become a billionaire, even after he splits it with his corrupt family and team. (Sure the fine print says its for political use.  Well, he controls the Republican Party and has placed his own people there. So he'll find ways.  And money that's left over after being raised for elections goes to the candidate if s/he wants it . . . And DJT is still raising money from the gullible cool aide drinkers as I write this on November 28!)

And most of these followers believed Trump's lies that Covid-19 was a hoax and was going away and most refused to wear masks until today and so they helped him cause thousands of unnecessary deaths with the lag time they allowed.  And some haven't awakened yet.
  • Doctors in the midwest report Trumpster patients dying of Covid, refusing to believe they actually have Covid!

PERSONAL SIDEBAR, MAYBE RELEVANT TO YOUR ESTEEMED FRIENDS AND BROTHERS HERE.

My 75-year-old sister, battling Alzheimers, was snatched by her two daughters POE from her surprised nursing home in Lakewood on October 8, 2020. I'd been calling her regularly every 2 to 3 weeks since her two daughters put her there c. April 3, 2020 when her husband died of Covid as COVID began to rage. (My sister caught Covid four weeks later and survived.  The daughters never told me; I researched and learned this myself, finally speaking with her in her hospital room and, with the nurses' help, face-timing with her and our cousin.).  For our adult life, I've been in touch with my sister periodically and always at holiday and holy day and birthday times.  No one has ever tried to stop me from speaking with my sister until today.

On their own, the daughters decided they want no one talking to my sister. I objected and called her c. two weeks later as Covid hit the headlines.  I first got the Nursing home's CEO (who followed protocol) to ask my sister if she wanted to talk to me.  She said "yes" and he had the home call me for her within an hour or two.

That call in late April was the first time. (THE DAUGHTERS WERE FURIOUS, APPARENTLY.)

Soon the director retired and the daughters seem to have threatened the staff with false legal bs and I had to call the NJ Nursing Home Ombudsman, who corrected that lie and I was talking again to my sister. But then, two directors later, the same thing happened again.  The home, perhaps hoping for the return of my sister by her daughters, kept me and a cousin caller stonewalled and in the dark. (We two family seem to be the only callers to my sister.)

I dug in and learned my sister wasn't there.  Nothing else.  So I kept calling the daughters who blocked my calls. So I called the Ombudsman and he learned from the home that the daughters--in a nasty fit--took my sister/their mother on October 8. I learned this a day or so before Thanksgiving. The state caseworker told me he confirmed with the nursing home my calls to my sister and her desire to always talk with me.

The daughters refused to tell the home where they were taking my sister.  Until I locate my sister, the nursing home ombudsman's role ends. Meantime I' called County Elder Abuse and left a voice mail.  I then called local PD in Manalapan and Howell where the sisters live and Lakewood, where the home is, and asked the police to make "welfare check" visits inquiring for me about my sister, which they did immediately. This was all November 25, the day before Thanksgiving, which was November 26, 2020.

One husband was home and told the cops the daughters told him my sister is fine and her daughters took her to a good place but, because of family differences, they don't want me to talk to her or know where she is. The other daughter's home was dark. No cars. The cops left a voice mail.  My next step may be to go to my local Dumont PD and file a missing persons report.

So far the kidnappers have told the police the person they kidnapped, whom they won't show, is safe at an undisclosed location. I'll give it a few days . . .

Your friends and our SJ and XJ brothers may have some ideas.  Of course, it's even more complicated, but the complications do not change the principles or the basic heart of the story.  As we age in this pandemic, it's a universal and poignant story . . . still to be completed.

NOTE: Before retiring five yeas ago, I had 35+ years in county human services, even funding programs to prevent elderly abuse. Also, as union president my last 12 years, 1 of 6 of my members, including all nurses, worked in our county nursing home. So I'm not unfamiliar with the situation except that now I'm living it during a pandemic that limits travel and meetings.

=============================================
Meantime, Bill et al, back to you in the Philippines.

Eddie G just wrote me to check out my Fordham and Orbis publishing contacts ( I wish I had them.) for a bio on Leni Robredo, the current Philippine VP,  whom he once taught political science to at UP.  She seems like a good woman with a heroic story, battling through hard times.

Hey, Jim Kelly, let's talk soon . . . How can we do all this at our age? I'm 80 and the youngster here, perhaps . . .

In solidarity,
Gerry
