Hi Chris - Here's something to strengthen both your Catholicism and your monastic memory. In the 17th century during lent and thirsty because of their farming labors, German monks brewed a "doppelbock beer". I remember (I think) you were admonished in the Philippines for buying some beer. I'm sure it wasn't during Lent. Resurrection blessings, jim

After these last 40 days, let us all follow Chris's example and raise our glasses to the One who suffered, died, and is risen, Alleluia.

Jim,
Nice anecdote.
BTW, I read a few months ago two books by Jim Martin SJ.  The first, In Good Company
interested  me, not because of his indulgent recitation of his career with GE Capital, but because of his description of the Novitiate of his day: the similarities and the differences from our experience.  Any reactions?

What am I doing in Rochester?
I was born here. I was a member of McQuaid's first class.
Six of my classmates also entered the Society: Al Caruana, Pete Conroy, Jerry Esterheld, Tom Garvey, Paul Nochelski and Tom Ritz
I taught at McQuaid during regency..
I received my MFA from RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology)
I was ordained in Rochester and celebrated my 50th anniversary of ordination here.
I was rescued from Murray Weigel Infirmary  during COVID to maintain a minimal number of Jesuits at McQuaid: 3 last year; 2 this year)
I'm officially Chaplain of the Middle School, grandfather of all faculty members, celebrant of daily masses and other sacraments.
Outside of McQuaid I celebrate Spanish masses at both city parishes and rural migrant chapels.
I'm also on the Board of Directors of Nativity Prep Academy of Rochester that I helped establish.
I hope that answers Kevin's question.

Jack,
A fulsome answer indeed!  Thank you.
Sounds like very rewarding (semi-retirement?) years.

Tom did enter as a Brother and worked at St. Peter's Prep where he died suddenly of a heart attack while in his 40s
