Minecraft server cannot be added

Hello,

I am not a natural born coder but a frustrated mum trying to get the Minecraft server up and running so my daughter can start studying with the help of the book.

I have managed to install the McMyAdmin server and the server is running. I have also changed the Minecraft version to 1.6.4. Then there's a paragraph in the book that looks like a duplicate to the previous one - it says I need to create a new profile based on the original profile. And I have just created a new profile called "Minecraft 1.6.4". I skipped this part but maybe there was a problem with the translation of the original text and I should have done something?

When I open Minecraft in 1.6.4, go to Multiplayer and click Add Server, I get an error message "Communication error". And when I click the text, I get this message: java.net.SocketException: Network is unreachable: Connect

Can you please help? I think the first thing I'll do is to boot the computer, that works surprisingly often :)

Can I ask what kind of computer / operating system you're running (Mac, PC, Windows 10 etc)?
