Can you please teach how to read makefiles already written by someone and debug them and add our new files?

Can you please explain how the makefile of linux kernel works?

How to find which makefiles are in turn being called by the base makefile?

Can you please explain what all this means?

make -C build linux.distclean

make -C build linux.patchlist_remove

make -C build linux.unpack

make -C build linux.patch

make–C build linux.menuconfig

I probably won't get around to make and build tools any time soon. I've been developing on Windows mostly the last few years and mostly in web stuff, so I'm not fresh with the Unix build chain. To be honest, I think the whole thing is a hideous rat's nest and the worst thing in the Linux world (though I can't say I love any alternative build systems).
