Hi,

I recently read out about the Fabric Alpha by MySQL team:
http://vnwrites.blogspot.de/2013/09/mysqlfabric-sharding-introduction.html

Any feedback from Galera team, how it will compare to Galera once released?

Thanks.

Ahoi SyRenity,
Even Im no one from the Galera team.
Fabric is something you should not compare with Galera.

Fabirc := mongodb style sharding of the data
Galera := (InnoDB) Engine Level Replication

These two are different.
BUT: As (compared with MongoDB) there are the Replication Sets.
Thats where Galera could/should come into play. As you want your shards being HA :)

P.S.: We should pay more attention for SpiderSE :)

Hi,

What you said Galera is not comparable to Fabric as although it seems to provide some HA with automatic provisioning, heartbeat checking of nodes and automatic master promotions it does not offer the features of Galera.
Galera could fit right in on the Fabric architecture and replace the mysql replicated master with 2 slaves. This would remove master promotion and provisioning complexities and also allow for better scale out as the failover nodes could then be used to write and read and not act mostly as a hot standby.

That is just my 2c.

Kind Regards,
Ilias.

Hi,

That was exactly was I was talking about, where Galera has his spot in Fabric.
In replacing the Replica Sets;)
