Google code now has optional logos. Is anyone here interested in
designing a Rietveld logo? It would be fine to do something similar to
the favicon, but with more detail. The rules (since Rietveld is not an
official Google app):

* The image file should be in PNG, JPG or GIF format and a maximum
of 153 x 55 pixels. Larger images will be scaled automatically.
* The logo will be shown on the upper left of every page in your
project, instead of the default Google Code logo.
* Do not include any Google trademarks.

Hello Group :)

Andi, who is a coworker of mine told me about this thread some days
ago...
I really love Rietveld and I'm doing lots of digital artwork as a
freelance webdesigner so I think I'll accept the challenge and will
try to design a logo next weekend (which will be a long weekend in
Germany *g).

Could anyone tell me why the software is called Rietveld? Just to get
some inspiration...

Best regards,
Martin

Hey Martin,

welcome to the group ;-)

To find out more about the background of this application and about
Rietveld you should read this wiki page:
http://code.google.com/p/rietveld/wiki/CodeReviewBackground

For a better explanation about the name, I suggest
http://code.google.com/appengine/articles/rietveld.html :)

Okay I just tried my best :)

This is the result:

http://vissembly.webfactional.com/rietveld/rietveld_logo1.png
http://vissembly.webfactional.com/rietveld/rietveld_logo2.png

http://vissembly.webfactional.com/rietveld/logo1.jpg
http://vissembly.webfactional.com/rietveld/logo2.jpg

I stumbled upon this blog post: http://google-code-updates.blogspot.com/2009/03/custom-logos-for-open-source-projects.html
They suggest this project as one of the first with a custom logo: http://code.google.com/p/twisty/
That drew my attention to creating a 55x55 logo as well since it looks better than a rectangular one.

The bigger versions of the boxes alone looked a bit dull, so I placed a monospace-sort-of-geeky-pixeltype-font in front of them and applied some gradient effects.

This is where I got the font: http://www.dafont.com/bitmap.php
It's the first one called "visitor".

Hope you like it :)

Best regards,
Martin

Thanks! I like logo2 best, with the somewhat brighter colors.

Are you making this available under a cretive commons license, so we
can actually use it?

Oh really? I was hoping you would vote for logo1 :)

Of course I release both logos under creative common license:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/de/deed.en

Martin
