Hi all,

This Sunday's meeting will start with an introduction to computer hacking competitions for middle and high school students. The presentation covers Carnegie Mellon's PicoCTF competition. This is a major international competition and schools in this area rank impressively high. Poolesville, Blair, Churchill, Wootton, Richard Montgomery and TJ had top teams this year. Takoma Park MS also did well and I'm sure that I missed quite a few more local teams in my quick skim of the results.

Also, I have a request to get the word out to teen girls who compete or want to compete in computer hacking competitions. Almost all of the teams competing are all-boy teams. After this year's competition, she decided to start a girls hacking club so that it would be possible to field a competitive all-girls team next year. She'll talk briefly about it on Sunday. If you know anyone who may be interested in this, I'd really appreciate it if you could put them in contact with her.

Sunday's meeting starts at 3 PM at the Rockville Memorial Library. More details are at https://www.meetup.com/Rockville-RSC-Makerspace/events/vbmbcryznbbc/
