Hi all,
It's been a while since we've used the google groups email list. In case you were wondering, CoderDojo DC continues to meet every other Sunday. We've been coordinating via
https://www.meetup.com/coderdojodc/. Our meeting tomorrow is a general project session. Coming up, Elizabeth Paul from UMD's physic department is going to talk to us about programming supercomputers to solve problems in nuclear fusion (will be kid-friendly), and award-winning interactive fiction author Buster Hudson will be talking about making Infocom-style interactive fiction games.
I did want to pass on some information about a cybersecurity competition called ångstromCTF (see
https://angstromctf.com/). It's a high school-led version of Carnegie Mellon's excelent picoCTF competition and will be great prep for picoCTF 2018 later this year. The competition is open to middle school and high school students. Teams are forming now. The competition is all online, so it's easy to participate. Unfortunately, I only heard about the competition and registration ends this Wednesday. One other note is that ångstromCTF is run locally by Montgomery Blair HS students!
I know of a middle school girl's team (mostly 7th graders) that could use a couple more members. If this is of interest to anyone, please let me know and I'll connect you.
Hope to see you in the future!
Frank
