Problem Solving & Software Development (PSSD) is a new undergraduate degree to be offered by the School of Computing, DCU. Subject to accreditation, the first intake of students will be in September 2013.

PSSD is a programme for students who have a passion for computers, problem solving and programming. To capitalise on this passion, in each year of the programme, students will undertake significant individual and team projects. Students will also take traditional Computer Science modules and avail of material on the Internet.

Unlike other computing degrees, applicants for PSSD are expected to have experience of computers and programming before starting the programme. Therefore, selection for the programme will be based on a portfolio, interview and a suitable grade in Leaving Certificate mathematics. DCU has General Entry Requirements which successful applicants must also achieve, but entry will not be based on total leaving certificate points. We still encourage students to do well in their leaving certificate exams, but we will select students based on their passion, experience and ability.

Over the coming months we will be engaging with students, teachers and industry to finalise our plans for this exciting new degree. To keep in touch, follow us on Twitter. Better still, join our Google Group, ask questions and give us feedback.
