CoderDojo Athenry Is Returning With A Difference

Hello All
I hope you are all well and are keeping safe throughout this pandemic. Who would have thought when we finished up after our last session, just before St. Patrick’s weekend, that a return to proper sessions would still not be in sight!
The Mentors had a meeting last Saturday and we have decided as it will not be feasible to provide in person sessions, we will provide online sessions if the interest is there. We are looking at providing up to five different groups.
EXPLORERS: for young kids (must know how to read)
Learn Scratch! program your own interactive stories, games, and animations.
Scratch helps kids to learn to think creatively and reason systematically.
ADVANCERS: for kids ready to move on from Explorers, features more advanced projects in Scratch and some other technologies.
BODGERS: for kids who have done Scratch and want to move on to a more advanced coding language. We’ll use Python to create our own animations and games like those being created in both Scratch groups and we’ll be experimenting with cool online emulators for BBC Micro Bit and the Raspberry Pi Sense Hat.
MODELLERS: running for its second year. As last year, will be using the free 3D modelling software Blender (https://www.blender.org/) to create and build 3D models. We'll look at modelling, texturing, rendering and maybe even video creation. We will be starting again from the basics, so beginners are welcome.
HACKERS: for teenagers in secondary school who have plenty of past technical experience in CoderDojo. They use teamwork and collaboration to come up with ideas for challenging projects, and they tackle the projects using of skills they have developed in other CoderDojo groups and new skills they acquire during the year. This year, they will work on software projects.
These sessions will take place using Microsoft Teams, Zoom or some similar technology.
