stemchallenge.org has some amazing game design walkthroughs. Not just how to program games but how to make the game compelling. There's also a national contest kids can enter. I will definitely be pitching this Saturday as its a really cool opportunity.

There's a scratch category in the challenge as well an open platform in case they wanted to use web (or whatever else).
