Sorry I haven't talked on here in a while. There's catching up to do.

Last month: last month we had a record turnout with 20 kids and parents. This became a challenge as there were definitely 3 different cohorts we were dealing with and as a consequence we gave out Jon's handout and went around to answer questions (as opposed to having a formal walk through led from the front). I think this will continue to work well until individuals are ready to break off into more advanced segments (then we'll have a python room, a c++ room, etc). One thing for certain, not all of the kids are as interested in scratch anymore so I'm going to reintroduce web for those who are interested. We're moving to a bigger room next month so I think we can have 2 small groups in the same room pretty easily.

Also it's time that they could be earning merit badges, so that will also be an ongoing activity where mentors review their knowledge and award badges.

So all that is exciting. Also exciting, we've got 36 kids and parents so far for next time (18 members). If you are free on the 3rd sat you should definitely come out and check it out and help.

The next phase in kicking this up a notch is using an "upside down classroom" model where we assign next months homework and then you discuss what was hard when you're all together. This makes sense as typically when you introduce concepts they are trivial and when you hit real world cases there is no one to ask. Walkthroughs like the breakout one and the Mario platform walk through, hopefully will help us move in that direction.

Thoughts, questions, already know you'll be there?
